Barbarian tribes employ German Cavalry, uniquely skilled in forest traversal and devastating charges. Egyptian civilizations can recruit archers from Nubia, equipped with poison arrows that gradually reduce enemy unit health. Scouts provide reconnaissance, while doctors can heal troops and possess culture-specific abilities.

Terrain diversity plays a crucial role in the game, with forests enabling infantry concealment and ambushes, watery terrain impeding heavy infantry movement without a bridge, and grassy terrain igniting fires that harm crossing troops.

Allied members cannot attack each other, although attacks on allied structures or villages belonging to allies are possible. In times of crisis, team members can request assistance through the message line, resulting in potential troop support from allies. Unlike other games in its genre, Praetorians – HD Remaster does not involve resource management. Instead, recruiting stronger soldiers relies solely on honor points, earned by engaging and defeating enemy troops.
